Richard E. Hearn, Sr., 89, of Delmar passed away peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was born on August 16, 1934 in Newark, Maryland, a son of the late Horace Lee Hearn and Anna May (Miller) Hearn. Richard owned and operated Hearn's Services and worked as a master electrician for over 25 years. He enjoyed volunteering at Harvest Ministries in Delmar where he was always ready to lend a hand and served as chaplain alongside his wife for many years. Most importantly, he was a devout Christian from a young age, and throughout the years he served as Sunday School superintendent, treasurer and deacon. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Haney of Delmar; son, Richard E. Hearn, Jr. (Brenda) of West Virginia; grandchildren, Rachael Bogdan (Roland), Jarrod Hearn (Tori), Gage Hearn (Olivia), and Brendan Hearn; seven great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brother, Allen Hearn (Carol); sisters, Elsie Lowe and Brenda Chatham (Gary); several nieces and nephews; and a bonus son, Freddy Mairena from Nicaragua who lived with them for a year and continued to be a special part of the family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maude Louise (Ellis) Hearn; son, Randall Hearn; brothers, Dallas Hearn and Irvin Hearn; and sister, Beatrice Williams. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 12:00 pm at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. The interment will follow the service in Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
