Obituary

Rebecca Lee "Becky" Williams Hooper, 71, of Mardela Springs, died Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born in 1940 on Christmas Day in Salisbury, a daughter of the late Harry J. and Ida Florence (Farrell) Williams. Becky, as she was fondly known by her family and friends, graduated from Wicomico Sr. High School in 1958. She then began her training in nursing school at Cambridge Hospital in 1959. She retired after 30 years of service as an LPN in the Critical Care Unit at Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury. She was a long time, active member of Snethen United Methodist Church in Mardela Springs. She will be remembered as a woman who loved life and enjoyed traveling with her family. She also loved the outdoors, tulips and wildlife, especially the birds that would congregate around her bird feeders. She is survived by her husband of almost 52 years, Adolphus "Bud" Hooper, to whom she married on June 3, 1960; 3 sons, Bryan A. Hooper (Marianne), Aaron J. Hooper (Karen), all of Mardela Springs and Jonnie L. Hooper (Maryanne) of Cove City, North Carolina; 10 grandchildren, Mindy, Tiffany, Stacey, Brandon, Brittany, Bryan Jr, Nathan, MacKenzie, Justin and Victoria; and 3 sisters, Joyce Galbraith (Walt), Faye Anderson (Ronnie) and Barbara Petty (Harold). She is also survived by 4 nephews, a step nephew and a cousin Jeanette Harper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Brenda Hooper, and grandparents, Samuel and Annie Williams and Roy and Mary Shockley Farrell. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 12:00 to 1:00. The Reverend Donna S. Hinkle will officiate. Interment will follow at Mardela Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Snethen United Methodist Church, c/o Terri Budd, 3604 Delmar Road, Delmar, DE 19940, or to the Mardela Springs Volunteer Fire Co., P.O.
