Rebecca "Becky" Bennett Adshead, 74, passed away peacefully at her home in Sharptown, Maryland on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born July 16, 1943 in Sharptown, a daughter of the late Fred Howard Bennett and Erline Miller Bailey. Becky graduated from Mardela High School with the class of 1961. She married her high school sweetheart, Cary, on November 4, 1961, and they enjoyed over 56 years of marriage in quiet little Sharptown. She had an aesthetic personality, which could best be seen through her knack for decorating and taking care of their home. Becky loved music and art, and was an avid reader who relished time relaxing at the beach. She also loved to travel and enjoyed visiting southern cities. Williamsburg, Savannah, and especially Charleston, were among her favorites. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Sharptown and had recently been attending Bayview Baptist Church in Laurel, Delaware. She was also a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 113. She is survived by her husband, W. Cary Adshead; a daughter, Sharon Adshead Bramble and her husband, James, of Newport News, Virginia; grandsons, Nicklaus Cary Doyle and Jacob Bennett Bramble, both of Newport News; sisters, Shirley Milligan and her husband, Roland, and Joanne Jones; and a brother, David Bennett. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Lynn Adshead, Sharon's twin sister, who passed in 1993. A public graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Fireman's Cemetery in Sharptown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children. The family would like to extend their gratitude to those at Coastal Hospice that helped care for Becky during her illness. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home of Delmar.
