Obituary

Rachel Virginia Truitt (Pruitt), 82, of Pittsville, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, died on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at TidalHealth-Peninsula Regional of COVID-19.She was born December 14, 1938 in Greenbackville, Virginia, a daughter of the late John Edward Pruitt and Blanche Smith (Paradise) Pruitt. As a young woman, Rachel worked as a cocktail waitress at Johnny & Sammy's in Salisbury. After retiring, she pursued her dream of being an Antiques Dealer and travelled up and down the east coast with her husband, Robert, participating in Antique Shows and Sales. She educated herself and developed an impressive expertise in all areas of Antiques. Searching for shells at tide's edge, carefully perusing stacks of books in the back of a dusty shop or sifting through boxes of cast offs at a flea market, she was a supreme treasure hunter. Her often wicked sense of humor and love of laughter was endearing to all who had the honor of befriending her. Her unconditional love for ALL the dogs is legendary. She is survived by her daughters, Christine Ashcraft and Kimberly Ashcraft, both of Salisbury; a grandson, Robert Martin, also of Salisbury; a sister, Helen Lewers, of Virginia, and lots of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her lifelong best since the age of 4, Ginny Horton, of Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert "Bobby" A. Truitt; and siblings, Clifton Pruitt, Ruth Watson, Sarah Northam, Jean Foskey, and Joyce Kennard. Think of her kindly when you smell the salt marsh, walk in warm sand at the beach, or hammer open a steamed crab at the picnic table. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, services will be private. In Lieu of Flowers, you may honor her by WEARING A MASK, WASHING YOUR HANDS, and GETTING YOUR COVID-19 VACCINATION AS SOON AS YOU ARE ABLE.
