LINTHICUM- R. Douglas Childs, 95, of Linthicum, Maryland, and formerly of Snow Hill, died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, Maryland. He was born on August 9, 1914 in Pikesville, a son of the late A. Raymond Childs and Virginia Pape Childs. Doug was stationed in Hawaii while proudly serving his country in the US Army from April 2, 1941 until his discharge on June 2, 1945. A graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Doug was a lifelong learner, an avid reader, a faithful community servant and a friend to all. He retired in 1974 as a Sperry gyro technician for the US Coast Guard in Curtis Bay after 25 years of service. He was an active member of All Hallows Episcopal Church in Snow Hill and and an active member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Linthicum for fifty years. As a member of St. Christopher's in Linthicum, Doug was very active in FISH (Families in Self Help), a volunteer service organization that assisted local families in crisis. Also, Doug was instrumental in founding the preschool at St. Christopher's in the 1970's. Mr. Childs took great care and pride in the mechanical maintenance and repair of the St. Christopher building and grounds and was a constant supporter of the church's outreach efforts. On his 90th birthday he volunteered to serve at the Honor Roll breakfast at North County High School. Doug was, for many decades, a devoted Baltimore Orioles fan, a golf enthusiast, and world traveler. He loved his country and his fellow man. He is survived by many special nieces and nephews and his large church family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna Jones Childs in 1999, an infant son in 1952 and two sisters, Margaret Adams and Jean Hughes. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 116 Marydel Road in Linthicum Heights, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:30. The Reverend Lura M. Kavel will officiate. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Makemie Presbyterian Cemetery in Snow Hill. The Reverend Walter E.
