It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Phillip L. Church Sr., a beloved husband, father, and friend. Phil peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at his home in Delmar, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 8, 1944, in Norfolk, Virginia to Lola and Earl Church. Phil retired from Crown Cork & Seal after 30 years of service as a master mechanic. He enjoyed the simple pleasures, such as camping trips and playing cornhole with friends and family. A die-hard NASCAR and San Francisco 49ers fan, he would always eagerly cheer on his favorite teams. He was also known for his love of ice-cold Miller Lite. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Lisa Church, his children: Christina Thompson (Robert), Leah Fisher (Lee), Renee Andrews (Bo), Phillip Church, Jr. (Jackie), Sommer McAllister (John Wheeler), Shane McAllister (Kayla Haney), Richard McAllister (Courtney Jones), Brittany Bohn (Ben). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Tyler, Shaina, Malina, Gavin, Jon, and Hunter; five great-grandchildren; his half-brothers, Clyde Church (Traci) and Samuel Thompson, Jr.; and his mother-in-law, Darlene Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lola and Sam Thompson and Earl and Violet Church, and his brothers, Ray and Wayne Church. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.
