Penny Elaine Manning, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend passed away peacefully Friday morning January 17, 2025, at the age of 61. Born on May 27, 1963, in Salisbury, Maryland, she grew up in a nurturing environment filled with love and faith, attending Faith Baptist Church with her parents, where she cherished her role as a charter member and a young pianist serving in the church. There is nothing Penny loved more in life than her family. Penny and her husband Greg would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this Valentine's Day. If asked what her favorite role she served in life was, she would have told you, being a mother brought her the most joy and fulfillment on earth. Penny was blessed with a daughter Samantha, and two sons, Stephen and Justin. When Penny thought she could never love anything more than her own children they gave her five beautiful grandkids that made her heart burst with pride. Penny dedicated her life and career to caring for others, earning her associate's degree at Wor-Wic Community College and building a rewarding career as a (RN) registered nurse. She spent countless compassionate years serving geriatric patients in assisted living facilities and nursing homes. She was most honored to work at Coastal Hospice at the Lake, where her warmth and commitment made a profound difference in the lives of her patients and each of the family members who came through the doors. During her career she worked at Genesis, Waterview, Salisbury Nursing Home, Delmar Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Manor House in Seaford. Penny's gentle spirit and unwavering dedication made her a remarkable caretaker, and she was treasured by all who knew her. Penny found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially during family trips to Crisfield and Tilghman Island, where moments spent by the water brought her immense happiness. One of her favorite places was Janes Island State Park, where she and her family made precious memories staying in the cabins and spending time crabbing-a paradise she lovingly referred to as "Heaven on Earth." A loving wife to her husband, Gregory Manning, Penny leaves behind a legacy of love in her children: Justin Manning, Gregory Stephen Manning, and Samantha Morris (David), as well as her cherished grandchildren: Destini, Shelby, Haili Jo, Lucy, and Cameron. She is also survived by her devoted mother, Betty Stephens, and her brother, Donald Stephens (Star). She was preceded in death by her father, Oliver Stephens, and sisters, Debbie Wilkerson and Patti Jester. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Penny's life at a funeral service on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 am at Faith Baptist Church, 30505 Dagsboro Road, Salisbury, MD. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, starting at 10:00 am. Following the service, family and friends are invited to the fellowship hall at Faith Baptist for a time of food and fellowship. She will be laid to rest at Melson's Cemetery in Delmar at a later date. Reverend Robert Reinhardt will officiate, honoring Penny's spirit and the love she shared with all who knew her. In memory of Penny, contributions may be sent to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
