Paul R. Lecates, 85, of Delmar, died Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. He was born March 6, 1926 in Delmar, a son of the late Roland J. and Verdie M. (Elliott) Lecates. Paul proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II where he was awarded with various service medals. He was a life member of the VFW Post 8276 in Delmar and the Disabled American Veterans and a past member of the Delmar Lions Club. He retired after many years of service as a supervisor in shipping and receiving at the former Rombro Brothers Garment Factory in Delmar. In his younger days he was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He also loved farming and tinkering with ongoing projects was his passion. He is survived by his son, Paul R. Lecates, II of Delmar; a daughter, Vicky Lecates Davis and her husband. Barry of Prince George, VA; 5 grandchildren, Jonathan Lance Davis, Jessica Davis Butterworth and her husband, Brandon Peyton, Laura Ashleigh Davis, Lyndsey Nicole Davis and Caleb Ryan Davis, all of Virginia; 2 great grandchildren, Bryleigh Kate Davis and Carter Reynoldson Butterworth, both of Virginia; and a sister, Mildred Parsons of Delmar. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Oliver Lecates and a sister, Loeda Briggs. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. Pastor Wayne Parsons will officiate.
