Obituary

Paul Donald Acker, 54, of Delmar, died Friday, August 21, 2009, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. He was born August 16, 1955 in Salisbury, a son of Donald Henry Acker of Delmar and the late Charlotte G. (Stever) Acker. Paul gradated from Delmar High with the Class of 75. He loved his work as a machinist for K&L Microwave in Salisbury for over 30 years. To Paul, being an accomplished machinist was as much of a hobby to him as it was a job, as he tinkered and built many things in the machine shop he built behind his home. His co-workers at K&L were considered to be his closest friends who stuck by him with visits, phone calls and lots of support during his illness. He was a member of the Delmar Wesleyan Church and appreciated the phone calls, visits and support from the members of the church as well. He was interested in model trains and was an avid baseball fan. He cherished special times with family, especially his niece and nephew and looked forward to holidays and birthdays with family. In addition to his father, he is survived by his sister, Karen K. Sowell and her husband, Lanny of Delmar; a niece, Kristin E. Sowell of Austin, Texas; a nephew, Casey J. Sowell of Delmar; and several cousins. A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2009 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Delmar Wesleyan Church, 800 East Street, Delmar, MD, followed by a funeral service at 11:00. The Reverend James Hitch will officiate. Interment will follow at Melson's Cemetery in Delmar. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: Delmar Wesleyan Church, 800 East Street, Delmar, MD 21875, or Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are being handled by Short Funeral Home, Delmar. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com.
