Obituary

Patrick "Pat" D. Marvel, 60, of Fruitland, died Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury. He was born July 28, 1955, a son of the late James C. Marvel and Anna Mae (Cullen) Marvel. Pat proudly served his country in the US Coast Guard from 1973 to 1975. He worked for many years at Eden's Nestbox in Parsonsburg. He also enjoyed doing God's work as a pastor and friend to the area's homeless and those in need and had been known to admit that gave him more joy and peace than anything he had ever experienced. He encouraged others to give up their earthly things for God's peace and was a member of Walker Memorial Church of God in Princess Anne. He loved birds, dogs, music and sports and was a fan of the Salisbury Roller Girls and baseball. He also loved flowers. He was a great story teller and loved to sit around reminiscing with family and friends. Pat was very proud of his Scottish and American Indian Nanticoke heritage. He will be forever remembered as a good spirited, kind hearted, happy man who would do anything for those in need. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Murphy-Marvel, to whom he married August 23, 2014; a son, Christopher Patrick Marvel of Salisbury; a daughter, Caitlin Marie Marvel of Salisbury; grandchildren, Logan and Rachael; sisters, Joan Hart and husband, Everett of Laurel and Mary Lou Grill of Salisbury; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife, high school sweetheart and mother to his son, Judy Dorman Hurley of Salisbury; and his former wife and mother to his daughter, Victoria Calvano Wilgus of Hebron. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Jimmy Marvel. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 12:00 noon at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where a visitation will be held from 11:00 to 12:00. Pastor Tim Shawyer will officiate. Interment will follow at Millsboro Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to H.O.P.E. Ministries, c/o H.O.P.E., Inc., P.O.
