Obituary

Patricia "Trish" Lee Layton left to continue her dance with Jesus on January 31, 2023, at the age of 75. Patricia was born to Elton and Blanche Harrington on February 6, 1947, in Chester, Pennsylvania. She had a love for playing basketball and graduated from Wicomico High School in 1965. Trish started her forever story after high school with James Oscar Layton and married James on August 5, 1967. At the age of 16, Trish began working and held careers in the manufacturing industry and as an office administrator in the dentistry field. She was known for being an extremely hard worker, unfortunately she was forced into retirement during the year of 2020. Throughout her life Trish kept her passion for basketball, but also developed a love for bowling. In July of 1968, she gave birth to her first child, James Mark Layton. Nine years later in December of 1977, her second child Jennifer Nicole Layton (Schleupner) was born. As Patricia grew older, her passion in life turned to caring for, entertaining, and teaching young children at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church. She loved children and children loved her. Trish was actively involved in church and spent countless hours working in children's ministry. Not only was Trish a staple in her church family for her love of children, but also known for her famous chicken salad. She has always been able to put smiles on faces and make others laugh. Trish served as a professional clown and entertained children and adults alike. To say the least, Patricia had a gift of spreading happiness and most importantly making others feel loved. Patricia is survived by her husband, James Oscar Layton of 55 years, son James Mark Layton, daughter Jennifer Nicole Schleupner (Matthew), her grandchildren Shane Layton (Karen), Shawn Layton (Samantha), Olivia Schleupner (Payton), Trevor Schleupner, Riley Schleupner, great-grandchildren Jayce, Amelia, and Sophia Layton, brother Elton "Buddy" Harrington Jr., sister Marcia "Doodie" Davis, and close friend Cathy Jester. The family would like to express thanks to Coastal Hospice for the excellent care they provided for our loved one. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, DE. Visitation will be between 4pm - 5pm and a service will begin at 5pm. The family asks guests to wear bright colors in remembrance of Patricia's vibrant personality. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
