Nettie Thomas peacefully passed away at the age of 96 in her cherished home in Delmar, Delaware, on Sunday, June 9, 2024. Born in Pittsville, Maryland on April 15, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Nathaniel Bowden and Marie M. (Layfield) Bowden. Throughout her life, Nettie found joy in various pursuits, including her work at the Manhattan Shirt Factory in Salisbury and her time spent as a dedicated cook. She was known for her collection of cardinals and Betty Boop memorabilia. Nettie's warm and welcoming spirit touched all who knew her. Her love for baking, tending to her plants, and hosting family gatherings will be dearly missed. She is survived by her children, Rose Elaine Wilkinson, Alfred H. Thomas, IV, and V. Sue Hurley; grandchildren, Stephen Thomas (Cecy), Christina Louise Dowell (Skip), Jaqueline Kaye Dryden (Dale), and Brandi Marie Thomas; 15 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; sister, Carrie Bradford; brother, Roland Bowden (Joyce); and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfred H. Thomas, III; daughter-in-law, Donna Gail Thomas; son-in-law, Bruce Wilkinson; grandsons, Alfred H. Thomas, V and Albert James King, Jr.; seven sisters, and three brothers. A visitation for family and friends will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. The funeral service will begin at 11am. Interment will follow the service in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
