Delmar- Nancy L. Payne, 69, of Delmar, died Friday, October 24, 2014 after bravely battling health issues for several years. She was born August 24, 1945 in Henderson, a daughter of the late Charles E. Swafford and Leola Swafford Hickman. Nancy worked many years, alongside her husband and family, for Payne's Logging. She had many responsibilities there, including that of the bookkeeper and office manager. She attended Faith Baptist Church of Delmar where she had many friends. She enjoyed traveling. Raising her family was a top priority for Nancy and she always made sure their home was a warm and welcome place for friends to hang out. Their home was always open to anyone. She loved to cook big meals for everyone and set a large table for everyone to gather and eat together. One of her favorite recipes was her famous macaroni and cheese. She welcomed the many roles of being a mother and loved supporting her children by attending sporting events, serving as team mom, homeroom mom and chaperoning field trips. She had a great love for her many dogs as well and considered them a part of her loving family. She is survived by three children, Rob Payne and his wife, Angela of Bivalve, Lisa Henry and her significant other, Olen White of Delmar and Lori Justice and her husband, Donald of Delmar; 6 grandchildren, Erin Basch and husband, Ryan, Matthew Payne, Ryan Disharoon and wife, Amber, Kaylee Justice, Jaclyn Disharoon and Lane Justice; 2 great grandchildren, Emily and Ethan; and sisters and brothers, Hazel Cohee, Barbara George, Daniel Swafford and David Swafford. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Bill Payne and his wife, Eileen; her very best friend, Marty Vincent; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Payne, who passed in 1998; and sisters and brothers, Helen, Ralph, Louie, Freddie, Donald, Teddy and Harold. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, and also Friday, October 31, 2014 from 10:00 to 11:00. A celebration of Nancy's Life will be held Friday at 11:00 at the funeral home, officiated by the Reverend Ken Johnson. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Coastal Hospice, P.O.
