Myra Howard Hovatter, 82, of Hebron, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2009 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born on November 7, 1926 in Chester, Pennsylvania to the late Wilson W. and Margaret (Morris) Howard. Mrs. Hovatter was a 1943 graduate of Hebron High School. She was a devoted member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church for most of her life, she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir and a quartet called "The Son Shiners." She retired from A & W Hardware Inc. in 1985. She belonged to many organizations, charter member of Roelma Chapter # 113 Order of the Eastern Star in Sharptown, YAK-RAM-PEH-Court # 32 Ladies of Oriental Shrine of Maryland, Ladies Oriental Shrine of the Eastern Shore, American Legion Auxillary # 237 of Hebron, AARP, Happy Timers, The Mended Heart Chapter # 221 in Salisbury and the Alumni Association of Hebron High School. Mrs. Hovatter was an avid reader and enjoyed working on family genealogy. She is survived by her husband, Elston G. Hovatter, Sr.; a son, Elston "Jerry" Hovatter, Jr. and his wife Joyce of Salisbury; two daughters, Charlene Hovatter Armentrout and her husband Keith of Salisbury, and Patricia S. Hovatter Reno and her husband Mike of Friendsville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Jason Hovatter and his wife Arrowyn of Portland, Oregon, David Armentrout and his wife Elizabeth of Parsonsburg, Sarah Armentrout of Salisbury, Elizabeth Robinson and her husband Mark of Maryville, Tennessee and Sean Larkin of Friendsville, Tennessee; three step grandchildren, Jonathan Reno of Tacoma, Washington, Susanna Reno of Texas and Christina Reno of Maryville, Tennessee; two great granddaughters, Manzanita Hovatter and Jenna Armentrout; a sister in law, Wanda Hovatter Hearn of Salisbury; a nephew, Philip L. Howard and his wife Catherine of Timonium, three great nephews, one great niece and three cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Wilson W. Howard, Jr. and a niece Terri Howard Hutchison. The receiving of friends will be held at Short Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Short Funeral Home, 13 East Grove Street in Delmar. The Reverend James Riley will officiate. Interment will follow the services in Hebron Cemetery.
