Obituary

HEBRON- Muriel Marjorie Roberts Reavis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, departed this earthly life at the age of 61 on Monday, May 9, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with many health issues. She was born in Easton, Maryland on July 4, 1949 and became the pride and joy of her parents, the late Rev. Maxwell J. and Guila Logue Roberts. Muriel showed exceptional musical talent at a very early age, receiving instruction in piano pedagogy at the Peabody Preparatory School of Music in Baltimore at the age of 5. As a child pianist, while sitting on a Baltimore phonebook and unable to reach the pedals, she performed with the Baltimore Symphony for Governor McKeldin. Her parents nurtured her talent, tirelessly making the trip from the Eastern Shore to Baltimore every week from the beginning through high school. For the past 38 years she has been the organist at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar, Delaware, where she was never happier than when she was sitting at the console of that magnificent pipe organ. In addition to her musical duties, she was in charge of the flowers for all services including weekly services and special ones like Christmas, Easter, Mother's Day and Father's Day. She delighted in being able to fill the sanctuary with beautiful poinsettias, lilies, palms and geraniums. She is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Ben; a son, Christopher Reavis and his wife, Alyce of Salisbury; a daughter, Heather Fullerton and her husband, Matt of St. Michaels; and three grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart, Molly and Marty Fullerton and Hannah Reavis. She also leaves behind very dear friends, Fran and Don Harmon, Ruby Matthews and Carol Dunn. Lastly she will be missed by her beloved cats, Wolfgang, Casper, Clementine, Dusty, Magnolia and Allegro and their canine companion, Jasmine. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. The Reverend Phyllis Walton will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Stephen's United Methodist Church Organ Fund,101 E. State Street, Delmar, DE 19940. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com
