Monica M. Mears, 60, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury after a very long and hard fought battle. She was born July 1, 1958 in Seaford, a daughter of the late Robert Cannon and Catherine Marie (Cabri) Krueger. In her younger years Monica was a member of the Salvation Army Church in Salisbury. Gymnastics were her passion when she was growing up and it gave her courage to face anything. She was an avid NASCAR fan and loved to drive which led her to a short-term career as a school bus driver for Wicomico County schools. She was a real people person and especially loved children and her Siamese cat. She is survived by a daughter, Erica Mears of Salisbury; a sister and caregiver, Eleanore E. Duncan of Pittsville; a niece, Wendy Caruso; a great niece, Allison Caruso; a brother, John J. Cannon (Susie) of Jacksonville, Florida; step-brothers, Norman H. Conway, Henry L. Conway, Jerry L. Conway and Larry A. Conway; and several grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her best friend, who was always there for her, Connie Ward. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Mears and her beloved step-mother, Cathryn M. Cannon. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service which begins at 11:00.
