SALISBURY- Mildred Petitt Kelley, 92, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2016 at the Harrison House of Snow Hill. She was born February 4, 1924 in Wilmington and was a daughter of the late G. Howard Petitt and Mauza Wilmer Petitt. Mildred graduated from Snow Hill High School with the class of 1942. She was a long time member of Union United Methodist Church in Greenbackville and enjoyed attending Spence Baptist Church in Snow Hill, which she considered her home church. For many years she was a member of the Salvation Army with hopes of helping the less fortunate. Mildred enjoyed traveling, eating out with family and friends and always amazed others by how much she could eat for such a small, sweet little lady. She loved the outdoors and could often be found out walking, exercising or working in her garden. She is survived by a sister, Phyllis Petitt Carter of Salisbury; nephews, Edward Shields (Chris) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Bruce Matthews (Patti) of Mappsville, Virginia and Allen Carter (Julie) of Ogden, Utah; nieces, Betty A. Heath (Gil) of Marion, Maryland, Penny Ritchey (Gordon) of Pocomoke, Maryland, Teresa C. Davis (Andy) of Delmar, Maryland and Tammy Carter of Salisbury; and many great nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband. Milton R. Kelley; sisters, Gertrude P. Matthews (S.W.), and Vivian P. Shields (Charles); brother, Ralph H. Petitt (Virginia); a brother-in-law, Benny Carter; and nieces, Barbara S. Priest and Mary S. Creed. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Spence Baptist Church, 7603 Spence Church Road, Snow Hill, where family and friends may call from 12:00 to 1:00. Pastor Kenneth Elligson will officiate. Interment will follow at Spence Baptist Cemetery.
