Michelle Dawn
Alexander
September 19, 1960 – May 7, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michelle Dawn Alexander, who left this world on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the age of 65. Born on September 19, 1960, in Laurel, Maryland, where she fostered a lifelong passion for sports, competing in swimming and playing volleyball throughout her college years. She graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School in 1978, where she played the flute in the school band, and went on to earn an associate's degree in radiology from the University of Maryland Medical Center program in Baltimore.
Michelle enjoyed a fulfilling career as a radiology medical tech, contributing her skills at the Neurology Center and the Washington Imaging Center for many years. Her dedication to healthcare was matched only by her enthusiasm for life. An avid camper, she cherished many summers spent at Assateague Island, and she was a loyal supporter of the University of Maryland Terps sports teams, especially women's sports, college basketball, and the WNBA. Additionally, she was a passionate fan of the Washington Capitals, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Washington Redskins.
Beyond her professional and sporting interests, Michelle was a genuine lover of words. Her fondness for reading, solving word puzzles, and collecting tattoos reflected the depth of her creativity. She also found joy in nurturing her garden and riding motorcycles. Michelle's affection for animals was evident, especially her deep bond with her dogs, Finn-her all-time favorite-and Calvin, as well as her beloved cat, Earl.
Michelle was the daughter of the late Arthur Alexander and Barbara Hartman Mease. Michelle is survived by her loving spouse, Lavon Landis, who she married on June 5, 2010, and while married 16 years, they have been together for over 35 years; She is also survived by her beloved children, Adam Calvert, Heather Gray (Kenny), Ashley Russo (Matt), Jordan Alexander, and Barbara "Bobbie" Alexander; 12 precious grandchildren; her brothers, Richard "Rick" Alexander (Mary) and Kevin Alexander (Rita); and many amazing nieces and nephews and cousins.
She will be remembered by her remarkable sense of humor and her ability to bring laughter to those around her.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 at Short Funeral Home of Delmar, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Michelle's name to a charity of your choice, reflecting her love for both animals and community service. Michelle will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her spirit continue to inspire us to embrace life with the same enthusiasm that she did.
