DELMAR-Michael Howard Perry, Sr., 78, of Delmar, died Friday, October 16, 2015 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born April 23, 1937 in Delmar, a son of the late Clyde M. Perry and Elsie Marvel Perry. Mike graduated from Delmar High with the class of 1955. In 1957 he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country on the U.S.S. Midway in the South Pacific until his discharge in 1959. In his younger days he worked alongside of his dad for Clyde M. Perry & Son General Contractors until eventually taking over the business. He also worked with J. Roland Dashiell. He was talented working with his hands and could build or fix anything and a jack of all trades. After working in construction, his love of cars led him to work as an auto mechanic at several auto dealerships and also for himself. In addition to repairing cars he also worked for a number of years as a maintenance supervisor for Allen Family Foods in Harbeson. His last job was working as a parts runner for NAPA in Delmar. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather who always took time to help his family. He was an avid reader and especially loved to read books about cars, planes and boats. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sandra Beach Perry; seven children, April Michelle "Shelly" Perry-Szymczak of Carson, VA, Michael Howard Perry, II of Melson, MD, Keith Raymond Perry of San Francisco, California, Jill E. DeFelice of Frankford, Amy F. Smith of Ocean View, Katie Perry Ricci of Delmar and Stephanie R. Perry of Delmar; grandchildren, Mathew, Jason, Allie, Caroline, Christopher, Megan and Stevie; great grandchildren, Starla, Odin, Aubrey, Elijah and Kenleigh; a brother, Shawn Patrick Perry of Manheim, PA; and a sister, Nola Perry Hearn of Delmar. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and a wonderful extended family of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Nick Perry and Chuck Perry. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar. The Reverend Phyllis Walton will officiate.
