Melba Teresa "Terry" Russell, 87, of Delmar, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, after a long courageous battle with several illnesses. She was born August 7, 1928 in Flomaton, Alabama, a daughter of the late Zeb and Josephine (Lambeth) Godwin. In her younger days, Terry owned and operated Terry's Sub Shop in Seaford before working a number of years for Montgomery Wards. She retired after 24 years of service as a supervisor at Sears and Roebuck. She loved working in her garden and growing canning vegetables. She was proud of her southern heritage and was an excellent cook who enjoyed big holiday dinners. Homemade cornpone and chicken and dumplings were some of the family's favorites. Terry also enjoyed doing needlework and crocheted many beautiful doilies and afghans. She is most remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Dawson and husband, Milton of Seaford and Cindy Moyer and husband, Michael of Laurel; a son, David Russell and wife, Sissy of Delmar; grandchildren, Scott, Chris, Judy, Angie, Heather, David, Jr., Mariah and Wesley; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Olivia Bradley of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar "Allen" Russell; a son, Mark Russell; and a daughter, Vickie Parks. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00. Interment will follow the services at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar. In memory of Mrs. Russell, contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.
