Mazie Helen Pruitt, 93, of Pocomoke, formerly of Stockton, died Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Hartley Hall Nursing Home in Pocomoke. She was born in November 26, 1918 in Willards, a daughter of the late Oscar and Janie (Baker) Webb. Mrs. Pruitt worked very hard at many jobs to help support her family through the years. She worked as a seamstress for the Snow Hill Shirt Factory, worked at Bird's Eye, Campbell's Soup, Pruitt's Seafood, a family business and owned and operated the Stockton Gas Station for many years. She was a member of the Stockton Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. In her younger days she loved to dance and had a beautiful singing voice. She was a true people person who always had many friends and would give her very last penny to a stranger if there was a need. She is survived by her daughter, Janet James and her husband, Jerry of Delmar; 3 sons, Gary Pruitt and his companion, Sue Morgan of Captain's Cove, VA, Don Pruitt and his wife, Sue of Snow Hill and Guy Pruitt of Florida; 8 grandchildren, Ann James, Eddie Pruitt, Travis Pruitt, Jamie Taylor, Jonah Baker, Cary Lin Bonneville, Christopher Pruitt and Nicole Ayres; 12 great grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth Hudson and her husband, Walt of Laurel. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Buddy" Pruitt, who passed in 1986; a brother, William Webb; and 2 sisters, Alma Jones and Dolly Hickman. A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Portersville Cemetery in Stockton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation/Eastern Shore Chapter 209C Milford Street, Salisbury, MD 21804.
