LAUREL-Maurice Edward Zimmerman, 89, of Laurel, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. He was born August 30, 1928 in Frederick, Maryland, a son of the late Maurice Hoffman Zimmerman and Margaret Carpenter Zimmerman. Maurice proudly served his country in the US Army and retired as a Master Sergeant after 21 years of service. After retirement he worked for Two Guys Hardware in Glen Burnie, then relocated to the Eastern Shore and worked for Easton Wholesale and Bridgeville Hardware. Maurice made friends wherever he went and will be remembered for his wonderful smile and sense of humor. He was a gifted writer who penned many poems and songs that he loved to share with family and friends. He also loved gardening and yardwork. He is survived by his children, Helen Bean (Ernie), Nancy Huson (Robert), Maurice E. Zimmerman, Jr. (Sandy), Vicki Hodgins (Raymond), June Yerkey (Dan), Kenneth W. Zimmerman, Carla Hall (David), Richard C. Tawney and David S. Brown (Bambi); many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Ruth May "Kitty" Zimmerman, who passed Friday, February 9, 2018; a son, Donald; a daughter, Shirley; and a sister, Margaret Zimmerman. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. The Reverend Howard Travers will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow at the Eastern Shore Memorial Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home of Delmar.
