Obituary

DELMAR- Maurice Thomas Campbell, 80, of Delmar, died Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 29, 1936 in Melson's, a son of the late George Oliver Campbell and Agnes Catherine (Parsons) Campbell. Maurice started his barbering career in 1958 and enjoyed almost 60 years of cutting hair and telling stories. His career started with Percy Phillips at the barber shop in Delmar. After Mr. Phillips passed away, Maurice and Gerald Riddle opened the Riddle & Campbell Barber Shop in Delmar where they made many lifelong friendships with the locals of Delmar and the surrounding areas. In his later years, Maurice's wife, Carolyn would often ask, "Maurice, why are you still cutting hair? Why don't you slow down a little?" His reply was always a simple, "I can't, who will cut their hair?" Maurice was a true family man who stayed involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He attended as many tee-ball, baseball and football games as work would allow and loved bragging about his children and grandchildren to his barber shop customers. He loved the outdoors, gardening, hunting and raising quails. He was a long time, active member of Melson's United Methodist Church in Delmar, where he served on various committees, such as the building fund committee, trustees, and played on the Melson's fast pitch softball team. He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Carolyn (Ennis) Campbell; sons, Robert W. Campbell and his wife, Lori, Rex A. Campbell and his wife, Claire and Randy L. Campbell and his wife, Carole Ann, all of Delmar; grandchildren, Ashley Bartrug (Justin), Scott Campbell, Matthew Campbell (Kristen), Amanda Campbell, Jared Campbell and Luke Campbell; and a great grandson, Dalton. He is also survived by a brother, Jerry Oliver Campbell and his wife, Doreen of Laurel; sisters, Faye Timmons of Powellville and Lynn Tamasi and her husband, John of Salisbury; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sandra; and a brother-in-law, Richard Timmons. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, November 7, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, and also on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service which begins at 2:00 p.m. The Reverend John Oltman will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Melson's Cemetery in Delmar. Memorial contributions may be made to Melson's United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Lester Elliott, 14149 Pepperbox Road, Delmar, DE 19940.
