Mattie M. Townsend, 89, of Salisbury passed away on Friday, December 5, 2008 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Mrs. Townsend was born February 23, 1919 in Powellville, a daughter of the late George and Mary Wilkins. She worked as a seamstress for Gant's Shirt Factory in Salisbury for many years and attended Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Salisbury. She is survived by a son, Donald Lee Townsend of Salisbury; a grandson, Bryan Townsend of Salisbury; two great grandsons, Jacob and Daniel Townsend; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Woodrow Townsend, and 13 brothers and sisters. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 11:00 am at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. Family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. The Reverend J. Harvey Dixon will officiate.
