Mary Irene Smith, 93, a resident of Brandywine Assisted Living in Rehoboth Beach, and formerly of Delmar, died Monday, September 1, 2008 at Harbor HealthCare Rehabilitation Center in Lewes. She was born December 24, 1914 in Delmar, a daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Leonard) Brown. Irene, as she was fondly known by her family and friends, was a long time member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends from Delmar. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Granville H. Smith, who passed in 1988. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, Delaware. The Reverend Marsha Carpenter will officiate.
