Obituary

DELMAR- On Monday, April 14, 2014 the Lord received a special angel, when Mary T. "Rhodie" Wootten, of Delmar died, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 9, 1921 in Salisbury, a daughter of the late Clyde G. Truitt and Grace Perry Truitt. Mrs. Wootten graduated from Wicomico High School before enrolling in classes at Paynter Business College. After business school she worked in the cafeteria at Delmar Jr.-Sr. High and retired in 1982 after over 25 years of service. In her younger days she was a member of American Legion Post 64 in Seaford and an avid bowler. She also enjoyed gardening and reading. Her family came first and she unselfishly always put their needs before her own. Not only was she a special mother and grandmother, but she was a wonderful mother-in-law as well. Her legacy was her chocolate fudge recipe and she was happy to make it to share with family and friends. She made many memorable trips to Virginia Beach to visit her sister-in-law, Alverdia Kerekesh, who was like a sister to her. She was a long time member of the walking club at the Centre at Salisbury, where she had many special friends. She faithfully participated in the exercise program at the cardiac rehab in Salisbury. She looked forward to her Wednesday hair appointment before spending the afternoons at the mall socializing with her friends. She is survived by 4 children, Tom Wootten and his wife, Gail, James H. Wootten and his wife, Charlotte, Gary Wootten and his wife, Jeannie and Gail Wootten, all of Delmar; 4 grandchildren, Allen Wootten of Laurel, Joy Williams and her husband, Tim of Princess Anne, Eric Wootten and his wife, Kelly of Ringgold, GA and April Hanson and her husband, Pete of Hebron; and six great grandchildren, Alison, Ryan, Caitlin, Eric II, Joseph and Michael. She is also survived by a sister Peggy White and her husband, Jack of Salisbury; and several special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Wootten, who passed in 2001; and 2 sisters, Marcy Simpson and Grace Mihalik. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. Mike Little will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriot's Way, Milford, DE 19963 or to the Delmar Fire Department, P.O. Box 143, Delmar, DE 19940. The family wishes to send a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of Delaware Hospice and members of the Delmar Fire Department, especially the EMS crews, for taking such good care of Mrs. Wootten. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home of Delmar. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com.
