Mary Bounds Pilchard, age 99, of Snow Hill, MD, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Hartley Hall Nursing Home in Pocomoke City. She was born on January 16, 1909, a daughter of the late William and Ella Bounds. Her husband, James Pilchard, preceded her in death in 1963. Mary was a graduate of Snow Hill High School where she was awarded the "Cordory Medal" as outstanding commercial student. Mary was a graduate of Goldey Beacom College. She was employed in 1936 with the W.T. Onley Canning Company, where she worked for 38 years as their bookkeeper. She went to work for the Worcester County Board of Education in 1964, where she retired after 7 years. She was an active member of the Snow Hill Christian Church, serving as Treasurer for more than 60 years. She was a member of the Snow Hill Soroptimist Club. Mary lived and made her home in Snow Hill until September 2006, when she moved to Hartley Hall Nursing Home in Pocomoke City. She is survived by sisters-in-law, Dixie Bounds of Ocean City, MD and Irene Bounds of Salisbury, MD; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Preston Bounds, Sr., Harvey Bounds and Eldred Bounds; and sisters, Gladys Knox Ingolia and Emily Cherrix. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Snow Hill Christian Church Cemetery. Pastor Ken Elligson will officiate.
