Mary Lee Nelson, 90, of Delmar, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at her home in Delmar. She was born Tazewell, Virginia, a daughter of the late Ernest A. Lyons and Ella M. (McCall) Lyons. Mrs. Nelson was a long time member of St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Delmar. She enjoyed her work as a Store Manager for the Shore Stop in Delmar, where she worked for over 25 years and treasured friendships made with her co-workers and customers. She always put others needs before hers. She loved spending special times with her family and had a special love for animals. She is survived by four daughters, Sharon Nelson and her husband, Dan of Cherry Hill, NJ, Mary Gardner and her fiancé John, of Gainesville, FL, Terry Carpenter and her fiancé Marcus, of Gainesville, FL and Edwina Harris and her husband Fred of Delmar; eight grandchildren, Mindy, Megan, Gregory, Lindsey, Matthew, Ethan, Nicolas and Logan; and two great grandchildren, Connor and Ella. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Edwin A. Nelson, who passed in 2008; a brother, Ralph Lyons; and a sister, June Hall. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. The Reverend Marsha Carpenter will officiate. Interment will follow the services at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar.
