Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Louise Kerley, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who departed from this world on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on May 9, 1936, in Delmar, MD, Mary dedicated her life to her family, faith, and her community. She was a daughter of the late Elwyn and Madeline Downes Ennis. Mary began her working life in several shirt factories before embarking on a long and fulfilling career in food service within Wicomico County schools. She served with dedication as the cafeteria manager at various schools, including Pittsville Elementary and Wicomico Junior High School, where she was known for her kindness and commitment to nourishing the minds and bodies of countless children. A lifelong member of Melsons Church, Mary's unwavering faith in her Lord remained a cornerstone of her life. Mary loved spending time with her family, particularly enjoying the joys of supporting her children and grandchildren in their sporting endeavors. Her love for nature was evident in her affinity for the beach, a deep appreciation for the beauty of birds, and her well-known sweet tooth. Mary is survived by her beloved children, Glenda Fisher (Donald), Dawn Kerley and Wyatt D. Kerley (Jeani); daughter-in-law, Kathie Kerley; grandchildren, Jayme Thompson (Kenny), Dustan Fisher (Sarah), and Kendall Gordy. great grandchildren, Gabe and Leah Fisher; sister, Carolyn Campbell; sister-in-law, Beverly Ennis; and many nieces and nephews. Mary will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband. Kenneth Lee Kerley, who passed in 1993; a sister, Sarah Della Moore; a son, Jay Elwyn Kerley; a brother, John Albert Ennis; and special brothers-in-law, Maurice Campbell and Layne Kerley. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home, located at 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, DE, where a visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00. The Reverend John Oltman will officiate. Interment will follow at Melsons Cemetery in Delmar. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in honor of Mary's memory to Melsons Church, 32705 Melson Road, Delmar, MD 21875.
