Obituary

Mary Jane Baker, 86, of Delmar, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 26, 1923 in Peach Blossom, Maryland, in Talbot County, a daughter of the late Lee and Beulah Jones. Mary Jane graduated from Snow Hill High School before coming to Delmar. She was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Laurel. She cherished the memories made with her family – they were her life. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Leslie V. Baker; four children, Pat Elliott and her husband, Bill of Florence, SC, Connie Adkins of Delmar, Bonnie Ellis and her husband D. Tucker of Delmar and Leslie Daniel Baker and his wife Cathie of Salisbury; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; a brother, Robert Jones and his wife Della of Delmar; a sister, Elvira Jones of Snow Hill; two sisters-in-law, Melba Hastings and Gladys Baker; and special family friends, Robert Elliott, Jr. and Brent "String Bean" Hall, both of Delmar. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Jones. The family would like to extend special thanks to nurses Dusty, Tiffany and the staff of Delaware Hospice for the care and compassion given to Mary Jane and the entire family. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Line Cemetery in Whitesville. The Reverend Donald Murray will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 32827 Old Stage Road, Laurel, DE 19956.
