Mary Ellen Cecil, 60, passed away peacefully at her home in Laurel, on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 23, 1959 to Howard and June Johnson of Seaford. Mary enjoyed taking walks on the beach, spending time with friends and family, and taking care of others. She has three children, Joe Ferrell, Cody Abbott and Logan Abbott-Cecil (fiancé Jaread Mears), all of Laurel. Mary also has five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, James Cecil, whom she married on May 2, 2004, preceded her in death. A Certified Nursing Assistant for most of her life, Mary worked at the Greenwood Rest Home and Delmar Nursing Home before becoming ill in 2015. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, Oct. 25, 2019 from 10:00 am to 11:00 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, followed by a funeral service which begins at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Joe Lecates will officiate.
