Mary Louise Catlin Scott, 95, a resident of the John B. Parsons Home in Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 6, 1916 in Delaware, Ohio, a daughter of the late Roscoe and Gertrude Hampshire. Mrs. Scott began her career in medical records at PRMC and then went on to work as a medical secretary for the office of Drs. Ellis, Burton, Gilmore and Wenrich. Mary enjoyed many years as a homemaker and her greatest joy was being with her family and friends. She took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She volunteered at the Holly Center for many years and also was a member of the Farm Bureau. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, flowers, reading, gospel music and playing the piano. She was a member of Snethen United Methodist Church in Mardela Springs, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a choir director and pianist for both Snethen U.M. Church and St. Paul's U.M. Church. Mary was a wonderful mother and a devoted Christian - her knowledge of the bible was phenomenal. She lived her life according to the teachings of the Word …. she will be greatly missed! She is survived by a son, William H. Catlin and his wife Nancy of Mardela Springs; two daughters, Esther C. Dwyer and her husband Jody of Hebron, and Maria C. Vandiver of Mardela Springs; a daughter-in-law, Joan Catlin of Mardela Springs; a brother, Harold Hampshire of Salisbury; grandchildren, Wade and Missy Catlin, Crystal and Mark White, Matthew and Vicki Catlin, Dean and Carrie Catlin, Debbie and Greg Kukta, Ricky and Toni Dwyer, Christine and Lee Hagel, and David and Andrea Vandiver;ten great grandchildren, Julian, Ashlynn, Maddie, Abby, Molly, Jacob, Alex, Michael and Hannah; three step-great grandchildren, Lindsay,Jimmy and Ty;and a beloved brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Otis and Miriam Elliott of Salisbury; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilmer H. Catlin; and her second husband, Charles W. Scott; a son, Wallace G. Catlin, a son-in-law, Mike Vandiver; a brother, Donald Hampshire; and a sister, Ruth Hopkins. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Reverend James Riley will officiate. Interment will follow at Mardela Memorial Cemetery.
