Obituary

Martin David Beatty, 87, of Delmar, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at PRMC in Salisbury. He was born on April 26, 1930 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, a son of the late Wallace and Hilda Beatty. Martin served in the U.S. Air Force following high school and after college he began his life-long career as an Air Force military instructor. He always enjoyed teaching and sharing knowledge with others and was an expert in the fields of aeronautics, jet engines, mechanics and electronics. Upon retirement, he had more time to devote to volunteer work at his church and in the community. His hobbies included reading, gardening, woodworking, beekeeping, and fixing anything mechanical. Mr. Beatty was an active member of his church, belonged to the American Legion, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Ann Beatty; daughters, Tamara Conkle (Keith) of Salisbury and Joyce E. Beatty of Delmar; grandchildren, Ryan Conkle and Lauren Conkle Cauffman; a brother, Thomas Beatty of Asheville, NC; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Max, James, and Elizabeth. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at St. Stephens United Methodist Church, 101 E. State Street in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. In memory of Mr. Beatty, contributions may be sent to the Beatty Family, 9179 Bi-State Blvd, Delmar, MD 21875. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
