Martha Smith Trego, 77, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 5, 2019 with her beloved daughter, Mandy, by her side. She came into this world on February 1, 1942, in Perulack, Pennsylvania, the youngest of 10 children of Sherman Brooks Smith and Clara Yetter Smith. Martha spent most of her life being a caregiver of some sort. At a young age she started babysitting and her love for children led her to continue caring for babies and small children for many years. She owned a ceramic shop and painted for Donald's Duck Shop and other stores in Ocean City, Md. She earned her CNA certificate and worked a short time caring for elderly patients, but soon realized that her heart belonged to helping the young. She had a special love for the cardinals, squirrels and doves. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and caregiver who always loved her "babies," no matter how old they had grown. She is survived by her daughter, Amanda "Mandy" C. Trego of Salisbury; many nieces and nephews and her grand-boys ad grand-girls, Annette, Christina, Greg, Eric, Ben and Alex. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of almost 51 years, Chester Brooks "Sam" Trego, who passed in 2009; 2 sisters; and 7 brothers. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Dauphin Cemetery in Pennsylvania. Services are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
