DELMAR- Margaret Ellen Hastings Downey, 61, of Delmar, died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Salisbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born May 18, 1947 in Milford, a daughter of the late Floyd and Metha Shedaker Hastings. Margaret worked 38 years as an Accounts Payable Manager for Perdue. She treasured time spent with her nieces and nephews and would do anything at anytime for them. She also loved flowers and plants and had a special love for trees, as she was a member of the Arbor Society. She is survived by 2 sisters, Joeanne Willey of Delmar and Sandra Donohoe and her husband Phil of Mardela Springs; a brother, Stayton L. Hastings of Delmar; a niece, Tallie Hastings Figgs and her husband Lonnie of Delmar; nephews, Eric Willey and his wife Molly of North Carolina, Rob Hurley, Jr. and his wife Jeribeth of Salisbury, Stayton M. Hastings and his wife Sara of Fruitland and Michael P. Donohoe of Mardela Springs; great nephews, Seth and Luke Figgs and Cade Hurley; great nieces Cassie Figgs and Ciera Hurley; and godsons, B.J. Hughes and Jeffrey Hughes, both of Delmar. She is also survived by an aunt, an uncle and many cousins. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2008 from 1:00 to 2:00 at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, followed by a funeral service at 2:00. The Reverend Edwin F. Dennis will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Alzheimer's Association, Julie H.C.
