DELMAR — Margaret H. Ammons Witte, 87, of Salisbury, and formerly of Delmar, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury. She was born in Georgetown, a daughter of the late Norman T. and Gertie E. Figgs Hastings. Margaret spent most of her life in Delmar and graduated from Delmar High School with the Class of 1940. She worked as a bookkeeper for various local businesses, including Barr International and Wicomico County Soil Conservation District. She was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Salisbury and a member of a local doll club. Good with her hands, Margaret loved craft making, painting and ceramics and sharing her works with family and friends. She was also a talented seamstress who loved to sew and do alterations for her friends at Pine Bluff Village, where she was a longtime resident. She is survived by a daughter, Judy Bowen, and her husband, Charles, of Salisbury; a son, R. Lester "Skip" Ammons Jr. and his wife, Charlotte, of Delmar; a sister, Shirley Martin of Salisbury; four grandchildren, Sherry O'Connor, Chuck Bowen, Angie James and Marty Ammons; five great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Jerry Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Odel Hastings and Richard "Nemo" Hastings, and her former husband, R. Lester Ammons Sr. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Short Funeral Home at 13 E. Grove St. in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1-2. The Rev. Phyllis Walton will officiate. Interment will follow the services at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar.
