Aunt Mae was a mother and friend to countless people over the years. She was a familiar face in the halls of PRMC for 40+ years, beginning her career in the women's ward, 1959. Many knew Ms. Shockley as simply as Aunt Mae. In her career, she was cherished by patients and patients' families as proven in many patient surveys. When you were cared for by her generous soul, you knew her hands and spirit would be there to always heal and guide. She was described as a true team player and would be known to make everything sparkle clean, especially on 5 East, PRMC. She would have her uniform as crisp and perfect as each bed she prepared for her patients. Aunt Mae was loved and treasured by her nieces, nephews and several life long friends that made her feel like she was family. Aunt Mae never forgot a single person. She did not miss a birthday, sympathy card, wedding or anniversary card. She always had a roll of coins for a surprised child. So many have been touch by the true generous thoughtful friendship that was Ms. Laura Mae Shockley. She has been given the greatest promotion that one can receive.
