Obituary

HEBRON- M. Janice Watson, 72, of Hebron, died Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. She was born May 4, 1941 in Salisbury, a daughter of the late George Charles Beach and Hannah Howard Beach. Janice worked many years as a nursing assistant at Salisbury Nursing Home, where she made many friends and earned the nickname "Florence Nightingale" for her unselfish willingness to always help others in need. Her smile, cheerful attitude and sense of humor will be missed by many. Her family, especially her grandchildren who called her "Mom-Mom Janny B", were the apples of her eye. She was a member of Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene in Salisbury. She loved gospel music and sports and was an avid New York Yankees fan. She is survived by 3 children, Kimberly Ward and her husband, Kimber of Salisbury, Karen Layfield and her husband, Jeff of Delmar and Kory J. Watson, Sr. and his wife, Valerie of Hebron; 10 grandchildren, Kaley Ward Humble and her husband, Levi, Kendra Ward, Meredith Layfield McIntosh and her husband, Christopher, Kassidy Ward, Brady Layfield, Samantha Layfield, Karrington Ward, Caroline Layfield, Kameron Watson and Annelise Layfield; 3 sisters, Emma Jean Phillips of Hebron, Joyce Marvel of Salisbury and Judy Calloway of Mardela Springs; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her poodle, "Buttons." In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Kory J. Watson, Jr. and a sister, Susan Jane Baxley. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, and also on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church, officiated by Reverend Noah Tharp. Interment will follow the services at Hebron Cemetery.
