Obituary

M. Hilda Littleton, 84, of Delmar, died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Salisbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born February 29, 1928 in Salisbury, a daughter of the late Noble Cooper and Viola Lewis Cooper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence A. Littleton. Sr.; a son, Lawrence A. Littleton, Jr.; and 3 brothers, Willis Cooper, James Cooper and Franklin Cooper. Hilda retired after many years of service as a nurse, a job she truly loved. She started her career working with Dr. Victor Sohler in Delmar before moving on to work in Laurel with Dr. Charles Moyer. She ended her nursing career working with Dr. Paul Aguillon in Seaford. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Delmar, where she served in various capacities as a Sunday school teacher, a vacation bible school leader and was involved for many years with the senior ladies group that met on Wednesdays. When her children were younger she also was active with the Cub Scouts and was a den mother for a number of years. She loved the outdoors and working in her yard, the beach and trips with her family to Williamsburg. Her true passion was her grandchildren and great grandchildren and treasured the memories made with them. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda L. Riddle (Gerald) of Delmar; a son, Alan C. Littleton (Terri) of Delmar; 7 grandchildren, Kim Johnson (Mark), Lori Hazel, Eric Littleton (Olivia), Beth Foxwell (B.J.), Laurence Littleton, III (Tina), Danny Riddle (Angie) and Kristine Littleton (and fiancé Ronald Hitchens),; 17 great grandchildren; 2 special nieces, Jackie and Darlene; and a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Littleton of Delmar. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, where family and friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00. Freddie Elliott will officiate. Interment will follow at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to First Baptist Church of Delmar, P.O. Box 200, Delmar, DE 19940.
