LAUREL- Mary Wanda Fowler, 84, of Laurel, died Monday, February 14, 2011 at her sister's home in Laurel, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 5, 1927 in Unicoi, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Clarence and Ruth Esther McInturff. In her younger years, Wanda worked for various companies before settling on the Eastern Shore. She will be remembered as a hard working lady, working on a farm, as a waitress and enjoyed her work cleaning homes for various families. For many years she cleaned and babysat for John and Robin Holloway of Salisbury and created a very special bond with their children, who called her "Nana." She was a long time, very active member of God's Missionary Church in Delmar where she served as past treasurer and Sunday school teacher. Wanda was a wonderful cook, loved working in her flowerbeds and garden and an excellent seamstress. She proudly made the bridesmaids dresses for her daughter's wedding. She had a fondness for lighthouses and had acquired quite a collection through the years. She treasured time spent with family and always looked forward to playing Triominos and drinking Dunkin Donuts coffee during family visits. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Joseph B. Fowler; a son, Ronald Fowler and his wife, Cynthia of Hedgesville, West Virginia; daughters, Deborah Lynn Fowler of Laurel and Nancy Bjur and her husband, John of Ballwin, Missouri; six grandchildren, Johnathan Columna, Wenona Phillips, Ron Fowler, Jr., Tashina Fowler, Nathan Bjur and Anna Bjur; eleven great grandchildren; a sister, Lucy McInturff of Laurel; and three brothers, David McInturff of Salisbury, Wayne McInturff of Charlotte Hall, MD and Robert McInturff of Ellicott City, MD. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Galena Williams, and two brothers, Leonard McInturff and Donald McInturff. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, and also on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at God's Missionary Church, 29436 Connelly Mill Road, Delmar, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Pastors Rob Dicken and John Walter will officiate. Interment will follow the services at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron.
