DOVER- Lydia Rebecca Wootten, 92, a resident of Luther Towers in Dover, formerly of Seaford, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011. She was born October 2, 1918 in Laurel, a daughter of the late James Edward and Mary E. Carey Wootten. Before moving to Dover in the last few years, Lydia spent most of her life in Seaford. She worked as a machine operator at the Laurel Pant Factory before spending 26 years as a Chemical Technician at E.I. DuPont in Seaford. She loved animals, especially parakeets and her special dog, "Trixie." She was very good at crocheting and other handiworks, and always enjoyed making blankets and infant caps for newborns at the hospital. She is survived by six nieces, Gladys Lester of Dover, Ruth Makowsky of Newark, Marguerite Webb of Dover, Faye Hickman of Salisbury, Edna Lewis of North Carolina and Lois Freels of Trevose, PA; and a nephew, Alton Edward Mangham of Winter Park, Florida. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Elsie Hickman, Blanche Boyd, Lelia Mangham and Esther Crowther; three brothers, John, Harley and Harry Wootten; and a nephew, Alvin Boyd. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, where family and friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00. The Reverend Howard Travers will officiate. Interment will follow the services at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Delmar.
