Lucille M. Johnson, 97, of Delmar, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Delmar Nursing Home. She was born on August 11, 1917 in Warsaw, Virginia, a daughter of the late Dennard and Louora Thrift. Lucille worked as an inspector for the Campbell Soup Company for many years. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Laurel. She is survived by her children, Dennard Murray, Betty Lou Tawes (Larry, Sr.), Alice Faye Steele (Ernie), Marian Marsh (Jim), Barbara Lee Carey (Lester, Jr); grandchildren, Ellen Tawes, Larry Tawes, Jr., David Tawes, Walton Tawes, Debbie Evans, Tammy Lovejoy, Teresa Faye Smith, Aaron Burbage, Eva Clifton, Kimberly Harlow, Jimmy Gardner, Charlie Gardner, Barbara Jean Lane, Bobby Lee Morris, Valerie Ann Watson, and Billy Jo Lane; several great-grandchildren; a niece, Ann Marie Dick; and a nephew, Elwood Barrack. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Johnson; a son, George Murray; and a sister, Beatrice Barrack. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. A visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Gayleen White will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Dennis Family Cemetery in Willards.
