Obituary

Loretta R. Johnson, 83, of Laurel, passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022, at Wicomico Nursing Home in Salisbury surrounded by her loving family. Loretta was born on June 26, 1939, in Wilmington, Delaware, a daughter of the late James Leroy Husfelt and Virginia Brittingham Husfelt. Throughout her lifetime, she worked various jobs in food service, sales, and warehouse management, but her most important job was taking care of her family. Loretta has been a lifelong homemaker caring for her family throughout each generation. Loretta liked to be called Retta or Granny. She was a kind, caring, warm hearted soul. Her top priority was always raising and caring for her family. She loved to cook hot meals and treats for her family, for example best burritos, pizza, potato salad, peanut butter cookies and many others. Enjoying a momentous get together brought her much happiness and contentment in her life with family being the center priority. She loved watching movies especially the Hallmark channel. She, also enjoyed the change of the seasons, blooming of the flowers in spring and changing colors of the leaves in fall. She would enjoy watching and feeding the hummingbirds that stopped by for a visit. She is survived by her sons, Chuck Johnson of Salisbury, Wayne Johnson, Jr. of Missouri, Ricky Johnson (Christine Smith Cannon) of Laurel, and Joseph Johnson (Victoria) of Salisbury; mother of her grandchildren Zachary and Cameron, Penny Johnson; grandchildren, Rachael Wells, Sheri Johnson, Summer Ronich, Jessi Davis, Zachary Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Nathaniel Cannon, Mason Johnson, and Kate Hill; and great-grandchildren, Lizzy Wells, Jacob Wells. Olivia Sanchez, Cloey Roach, Jacob Davis, Lilly Davis, Legend Wayne Davis, Ava Love, August Love, Naomi Hill, and 4 more greats. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Franklin Johnson, Sr. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. Pastor Wayne Parsons will officiate. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com.
