Lois Mae McCollum, 93, who resided at the Gull Creek Senior Living Community in Berlin, Maryland, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Atlantic General Hospital. She moved to Erie, Pennsylvania as a child and lived there until retiring with her husband to Davenport, Florida. She was born on May 26, 1922 in Cleveland Ohio, to the late Carl and Clara Burroughs. Lois graduated from Strong Vincent High School in Erie, Pennsylvania and earned her registered nursing certificate from the Meyer Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Buffalo, New York. Lois worked as an operating room nurse at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pennsylvania for the majority of her working life. She was a take charge individual who took leadership roles in the local PTA , the Association of Operating Room Nurses and Westminster United Presbyterian Church. After moving to Florida, she became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Haines City, volunteered at the Heart of Florida Hospital in Davenport and was active in the Center Crest Community. She is survived by three children, Arthur McCollum and his wife Nancy of Erie, Pennsylvania, Janis McCollum Robinson and her husband James of Delmar, Maryland, and James McCollum and his wife Kathleen of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William Edward McCollum, and a sister, Helen Bentley Buerkle. The interment will be held at a later date in Erie, Pennsylvania. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
