Obituary

SNOW HILL- Lloyd A. Adkins, 87, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at his home in Snow Hill, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 24, 1927 in Perihawkin (Pocomoke), in Somerset County, a son of the Late John. J. and Lillie C. Adkins. In his early adult years, he worked at Jackson Buick in Berlin, then as service manager at the former Powell Motor Co. in Salisbury . He retired as body shop manager at Oliphant Chevrolet. After retirement, he worked at Kelley's Body Shop and Marty's Paint, Too. He was very talented working with his hands and very carefully, room by room, remodeled and restored the family home of over 61 years. He enjoyed refurnishing furniture. Growing cucumbers, tomatoes and cantaloupes were a summer pastime. He spent many hours working on and painting cars and his 1942 Farmall "H" over the many years of his life. He was an avid toy tractor collector and restoration specialist. Everything he did revolved around family. He truly enjoyed spending time with them, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Lura G. Adkins; children, Richard A. Adkins and Barbara A. Tribeck (Gerry); daughters-in-law Cheryl Adkins and Joan Adkins; grandchildren, Shawn Adkins, Curtis Adkins (Amber), Puller Adkins, Kathryn (Kate) Adkins, Hunter Adkins, MK1 Kevin C. Tribeck USCG (April), MK2 Jason L. Tribeck and Allison A. Esham (Joe); great-grandchildren, John Adkins and Penelope Adkins; his beloved Golden Retriever "Comet"; two brothers James and Norman Adkins; five sisters Aline Wilmer, Anna (Polly) Gordy, Carolyn Groff (Ron), Esther Smith (Sammy) and Laura Taylor. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Mary G. Chase and Frances Adkins; brother in law Richard C. Gordy (Alice Lee) and many cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Gene G. Adkins and W. Keith Adkins; brother, John Adkins; sister, Ruth Guthrie; brothers-in-law, Paul D. Gordy and Ed Guthrie; sisters-in-law Louise G. McGrath and Marian Adkins. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 11:00a.m. at Bates Memorial United Methodist Church in Snow Hill, where a visitation will be held from 10 to 11a.m. The Reverends Tina Whaley and Charles Strickler will officiate. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 or Cokesbury United Methodist Church, Courthouse Hill Rd., Pocomoke, MD 21851. Arrangements are being handled by Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
