Linda Lee Johnson, born on July 5, 1947, in Salisbury, Maryland, went to meet Our Savior peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the age of 79. She was the beloved daughter of Edward and Doris VanMeter Cox and was raised by her devoted maternal grandmother, Janie VanMeter, after losing her mother at a young age.
Linda spent her career in the insurance industry, working mainly for United Insurance in Salisbury, where she specialized in debit insurance and sales. Known for her infectious smile, her hugs, and the ability to make others laugh, she formed lasting connections with everyone she met and truly enjoyed life.
In her earlier years, Linda had a passion for boating, camping, dancing and socializing. Linda was an active member of several community organizations, including the Moose Lodge in Haines City, Florida, the Delmar VFW, and the Redmen's Lodge Ladies Auxiliary in Fruitland. She was also a devoted member of Grace United Methodist Church in Salisbury.
An ardent dog lover, Linda leaves behind her three loyal companions: Ranger, Bella, and Roxy.
She is survived by her loving partner and spouse of 27 years, Linda E. Calloway, along with cousins Dee Calloway and Robert VanMeter and several nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.
In addition to her parents and grandmother, Linda was preceded in death by her brothers Robert, Ronnie, Jack, and Junior VanMeter and her sisters Jill, Helen, and Gladys.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 2 p.m. at the Redmen's Lodge #149 in Fruitland.
Her commitment to animal welfare was evident through her generous donations to the Wicomico County Humane Society, 5130 Citation Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804. In her memory, contributions may be made to this cherished organization.
Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
