Lewis Dean Adkins, 72, of Laurel, DE passed away in his home on February 22, 2025 after battling a long illness. He was born May 13, 1952, in Salisbury, MD, to Lewis Jackson Adkins and Margaret Truitt Adkins. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister Cheryl Adkins Yarema, and his wife Dorothy "Dot" Adkins. He is survived by his daughters Georgia Adkins of Jonesborough, TN, Jennifer (David) Simowitz of Blades, DE, and Holly Adkins of Salisbury, MD. He is also survived by his grandchildren Robbie, Greg, and Erik LeCates, Tyler and Jackson Simowitz, and Hayley Vogan. He is also survived by his 2 little buddies, his loving dogs Gizmo and Prissy, who were by his side until the end. After graduating college , he started his career as an Art Teacher and Co-Chair of the department at a high school in La Plata, MD. After returning to Delmar he pursued other employment in management, supervisor, and service tech work. In 2010, he retired from Holt Paper Co. By 2015 he finally retired from his sign business, Adkins Signs, after 35 years. He then began buying, selling, and repairing used appliances. For over 12 years he created and hosted Open Mic Christian Night at local churches. He truly enjoyed the humor, praise, and fellowship with friends and local singers. He could also be found, after retiring, doing boardwalk entertainment as Willie Nelson, Spongebob, Spiderman, and, of course, Skinny Elvis. He enjoyed singing classic hits and christian songs. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, March 1st at 1 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, DE. Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. Interment will follow the service in Melsons Cemetery in Delmar. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made in the name of Lewis Adkins to Delaware Hospice or the Humane Society of Delaware. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
