Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leonard James Addis III, of Salisbury, who departed this life on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on August 11, 1949, in Mineola, NY, he was a son of the late Leonard James Addis, Jr. and Helen Ardler Piorek. Len dedicated his life to serving his country as a proud member of the U.S. Army, where he enlisted in 1971 and ultimately retired as Captain in 2002. A second-generation paratrooper, he was deeply committed to his role in the military and shared his passion for service as an instructor for JROTC in local high schools. His deep sense of patriotism and unwavering love for God and family shaped his everyday life, and he shared his faith publicly as an active member of the Salisbury Baptist Temple where he was recently baptized. Len was a cherished member of the American Legion Post 64 and the "Wild Turkey Gang," whom he considered his extended family. He was an avid sports fan, supporting the Philadelphia Eagles and East Carolina University sports. A true animal lover, he will be remembered fondly for his many pets, especially his faithful companion, Bella and Paisley. Len is survived by his loving wife of almost 15 years, Jenny Addis, who he married on October 14, 2010; children; Robert "Bob" Addis and wife, Mary, William "Bill" Addis and wife, Suzanne, Carolyn Ann Swisher and husband, Michael, and James David Addis; step-son who he considered his own, Jesse Andrew Henry; grandchildren, Samantha Elizabeth Addis, Emily Marie Addis, Robert George Addis, Jr., Payton Aubrey Addis, Logan Joseph Addis, Hailey Lynn Swisher and Declan Cairo Swisher; and brothers, David Addis, Duane Addis and Brian Addis; and a sister, Karen Griffith. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In honor of Len's remarkable life and legacy, funeral services will be held at Salisbury Baptist Temple on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 11:30, where a visitation will take place from 10:30 to 11:30. Interment with military honors will follow at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock.
