Lelia Rosalia Paredes Castro, 99, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 16, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She will be dearly missed. Lelia was born December 21, 1922, in Casa Grande, LaLibertad, Peru, a daughter of the late Carlos Castro Cortez and Mercedes Cabanillas Terrones. Her strong work ethic started at a young age as Lelia studied to work as a beautician and also became a very good seamstress. She loved music and was a wonderful dancer. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing traditional Peruvian dishes for her family and friends. Making jewelry, shopping and traveling were also favorite activities of hers. Trips to Canada, Spain, Italy, and home to Peru were some of her favorites. She treasured her family the most and will always be remembered for her generosity and thoughtfulness. Her family described her as feisty with a wonderful sense of humor and a strong-willed demeanor. She is survived by her children, John C. Paredes (Johanna) of Seaford, Ana M. Paredes, Rosario M. Arce (Cesar) of Fruitland and Nancy G. Paredes of Salisbury; grandchildren, Oscar Arce, Roberto Arce, Kristy Paredes, Tisha Paredes, and Manuel Caceres; great grandchildren, Cristina, Oscar, Sebastian, and Santiago Arce; a first cousin who she considered to be like a sister, Vicky Arriaga De Salazar; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Juan Presentacion Paredes Albarran (2010); siblings, Carlos Castro Cabanillas, Mario Roncal Cabanillas, Americo Sanchez, Amanda Castro, Rosalia Castro, Beatriz Castro, Anita Castro, and Luis Castro; and 9 half brothers and sisters. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 23, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street, Delmar, Delaware 19940, followed by a memorial service which will begin at 2:00. John Sharpe will officiate. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
