Lelah M. Crockett, 77, of Delmar, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2009 at her home. Mrs. Crockett was born in Delmar on October 16, 1931, to the late Otis Mitchell and Mabel (Carey) Mitchell. After the passing of her mother at a young age, Lelah was raised by her adopted mother, Ruth Owens Mitchell. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Delmar. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed needlework. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Lester C. Twilley, Jr., of Mardela Springs, Maryland; two grandchildren, Marcy Twilley of Salisbury and Lester C. Twilley, III and his fiancée, Jessica Groskof, of Colorado Springs, CO; a great grandson, Jackson Twilley of Colorado Springs, CO; a brother, Franklin Mitchell of Delmar; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog "Abby." She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Crockett, and a sister, Mary Belle Farlow. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove Street in Delmar. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in St. Stephens Cemetery in Delmar.
